Antique ring blue enamel with pearls
Late Victorian; seed pearls
This ring is an exquisite example of the Aesthetic period! It tests to be 14kt. gold, but note the slight rose' cast to the finish. The color of this gold is due to its copper alloy, however, its not rose gold. The color just adds to the uniqueness and aesthetics of this piece.
Another aesthetically pleasing feature is the enamel work. It is in excellent condition, especially knowing the age of this piece. Notice the striation in the enamel- that effect is produced by the goldsmith heavily engraving the top of the ring then enameling it with high quality translucent cobalt enamel. The use of the seed pearls is, once again, typical of the late Victorian era.
